Collegiate American History and AP US History at Central High School
These US History courses are designed to provide students with analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in US History from its colonial origins through the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement to contemporary America.
These courses prepare students for immediate and advanced college courses by providing them with experiences equivalent to those made by a full semester introductory college course. Students will learn to assess historical materials – their relevance to a given interpretive problem, reliability, and importance - and to weigh the evidence and interpretations presented in historical scholarship. The course will develop the skills necessary to arrive at conclusions on the basis of an informed judgment and to present reasons and evidence clearly and persuasively in essay format.
These courses are taught as freshman level college classes.
*College credit through NSU and its Rising Scholars program at a reduced tuition rate. Students will be required to purchase a binder for this course.
